Volunteer

Without the assistance of our amazing volunteers we would not exist, and we welcome new members and helpers in all aspects of our work.

We run regular working bees where we carry out tasks such as planting, weeding and removing beach litter. As our work covers the beautiful beaches around Maketu, you can be sure of a fantastic view while you work, as well as some great company! We also usually finish off with a sausage sizzle to reward all your efforts!

We occasionally organise training courses for our volunteers to allow you the chance to upskill in areas such as LUV driving, herbicide application, animal pest control and chainsaw use. These courses are partially funded by us, so we are able to offer them at a generously reduced rate.

We also welcome helpers for our education program, both in the classroom and in the field. If you are interested then please contact our Education Officer Janie on janie@maketuwetlands.org.nz.

Feel free to let us know if you have any particular skills or qualifications you think might be of use.

Please get in touch via the form below if you would like to know more, and see our ‘Join Us‘ page for details about how to become a member. You can also keep an eye on our ‘Events’ box for the latest working bee dates, or send us your contact details to sign up to our email alert list. We hope to see you at an event soon
